This installment of A Look Back features “A Long Day’s Journey Into Night”, by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Published in the autumn-winter 2003 issue of POP magazine, “Day” has a cast of models which include Amber Valletta, Daria Werbowy, Elise Crombez and Polina Kouklina (all of which were rising stars or already big names at the time).
The underlying tones of sensuality and mystique are reminiscent of the photography duo’s more recent work. On the other hand, however, there is something more unrestrained, or lack for a better word–natural–about these photographs than their modern day counterparts. Whether that is for the better or worse, remains up to the viewer.
