Christy Turlington by Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia July 2010

Inspired by the sophistication of the fall collections, Steven Meisel’s cover shoot for the July issue of Vogue Italia captures supermodel Christy Turlington in 60s inspired looks set against a gritty backdrop of chaos and erosion. Styled by Karl Templer, Christy dons an elegant wardrobe of Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci and Yves Saint Laurent.

If she said, "There's nothing rewarding about modeling. It was a fun opportunity that allowed me to see the world but spiritually and intellectually there is nothing rewarding about the profession at all.", why does she keep doing it?

i guess she's just not a spiritual or intellectual individual. i'm not surprised. i remember the last time she was on the cover of vogue us, there were a few ignorant comments made by her that were a little controversial to the magazine's readers.

She has openly stated that she does it to pay the bills- she got her MA from Columbia recently and is working on maternal health issues in underdeveloped nations. I think she was dead on with that comment- models, fashion, high art does nothing but make the world a bit prettier. There is nothing to honorific about parading around in million dollar outfits when there are so many issues relating to inequality. I love her, I think she's a breath of fresh air. The Vogue issue you are talking about, I read it, I didn't see any ignorant comments imo. I thought she was straight forward- I do this to make money, that's about it, my real passion is working to help women, etc.
