Earlier this year, Dolce & Gabbana designer Domenico Dolce’s comments on gay adoptions and IVF became a source of controversy when he stated, “We oppose gay adoptions,” to the Italian magazine Panorama. He continued with, “You are born to a mother and a father — or at least that’s how it should be. I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Uteri [for] rent, semen chosen from a catalog.”
The comments led to Elton John boycotting the brand, a media firestorm and even an interview with CNN. In a recent feature with American Vogue though, Dolce has apologized for his comments. He says, “I’ve talked to Stefano [Gabbana] a lot about this,” Dolce continues, “I’ve realized that my words were inappropriate, and I apologize. They are just kids. You don’t need labels, baby labels.”
