The September 2016 issue of ELLE Canada serves some major hairstyle inspiration with a spread called, ‘Natural Anthem’. Putting a spotlight on Black and natural hairdos, the magazine features everything from crochet braids to Bantu knots and pinned finger waves.
Photographed by Sathy + Pratha and styled by Juliana Schiavinatto, models Milly, Allisa, Idil, Naro, Kiera, and Cassandra get their close-ups in the dynamic shots. The story was made with art direction by Brittany Eccles, hair by Justin German, and makeup by Sabrina Rinaldi.
ELLE’s beauty director Vanessa Craft says about the importance of the editorial, “I have wanted to do a shoot like this for a long, long time – a visual love letter to the girls I grew up with and the women we all have all become. Hair is such a hugely important part of our world and I wanted to celebrate it authentically.”
