Wu’s Armored Lady – Jason Wu delivered strict elegance with an homage to his Chinese roots for his fall 2012 show presented earlier today during New York Fashion Week. Form-fitting yet ladylike silhouettes hit the catwalk with sportswear undertones in the form of belted coats and capes. Military inspired jackets were accented with brocade, tassels and Swarovski crystals for a glamorous twist. Fall brought out a tougher, sleeker outing than what we would expect with high slits, leather and luxurious furs.

On Target – Set to debut in stores this February, Jason Wu teams up with big-chain retailer Target for a capsule collection of affordable designs starting at just $19.99. The new collection was inspired by an American girl in Paris and features Wu’s vision of ladylike and demure creations with a colorful palette, feminine patterns and lightweight materials.

Wu’s Pop Art Spring – For spring 2012, Jason Wu delivered a collection that juxtaposed muted hues with a spring palette, giving the feminine dresses a look that that could easily transition from day to night. Starting off with retro, 40s inspired silhouettes, Wu’s protagonist brings a bit of toughness to the new season in the form of leather accents, spiked hair pieces and dramatic makeup. Wu notes that this season’s designs are inspired by pop artist Kaws. The influence can be seen in speckled prints that give way to bold hues ranging from blazing blue to canary yellow. Towards the end, shapes become more structured including heavy ruffles that brought a sense of haute couture elegance to Wu’s already classic aesthetic.

Although most well known for his sophisticated day wear, designer Jason Wu took a foray into evening wear for his fall 2011 showing at New York Fashion Week. Working with delicate lace, Swarovski crystals and feathered embellishments, the new collection looked ready for a night out on the town with its sweeping gowns and strong suiting in a muted, more mature color scheme.
