Dior’s Classic Fall – Bill Gaytten looked towards the archives for inspiration with his second mainline collection for Dior’s fall 2012 presentation. With still no official word on a permanent creative director, the new season showcased demure forties and fifties inspired silhouettes in a muted color palette of taupe, black and burgundy. Despite the lack of Galliano opulence, Gaytten offered a lovely refinement for the autumn season with ballerina inspired shapes. Cinched jackets, pleated skirts and jewelry style embellishments dominate the Dior woman’s wardrobe for autumn.

Philosophy’s Demure Fall – Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti took on classic staples for fall 2012 with a hint of 60′s flair thrown in as well. A light color palette ranging from champagne to silvery grey to ivory set the tone for the new season which focused on demure, ladylike elegance. An offshoot line from Alberta Ferretti, the collection offered crystal embellished tops, form-fitting dresses and a modified trench belted at the waist. Star of the mainline label’s spring 2012 campaign, Daria Strokous, closed the show in a full coat paired with a delicately sheer dress.

The Layered Lady – For fall 2012, Carolina Herrera embraced a story of layering complete with a cool palette of navy, robin egg blue, ash, eggplant and black. The new season introduced lengthened silhouettes, cozy cowls and abstract prints. Touches of fur, tweed and sequins brought a certain amount of lavishness to the sensible silhouettes. For the finale look, Herrera delivered drama in the form of a coral ball gown worn by model Aymeline Valade.

Gone for a Ride – Herve Leger by Max Azria’s fall 2012 collection was equestrian inspired with a hint of motorcycle culture thrown in for good measure. Beginning with a strong black, models hit the runway in body conscious ensembles cinched at the waist. Keeping with the equestrian theme, Leger’s signature bandage dresses were accented by leather harnesses, fringe and gladiator style boots. The hard look was softened with graphic prints, peekaboo cutouts and fur-adorned cropped jackets. Certainly not for the faint of heart, the fall collection is made for a woman who dares to walk on the rebellious side.

A Light Touch to Fall – Jill Stuart’s signature feminine, airy frocks were out in full force for her fall 2012 show presented earlier today during New York Fashion Week. The color palette was dark, with pops of metallic, plum and navy to lighten to mood. Not one to pass on demureness, Stuart also featured a mix of lace and ruffles with peekaboo cutouts and leggy hemlines for a sexy touch. Outerwear included puffy coats belted at the waist, making a strong contrast to the flirty dresses and skirts which dominated the runway for fall.
