Dream of Couture – Giambattista Valli played with hard and soft elements for his sophomore haute couture collection presented in Paris this week. Feminine touches of lace, flowers and sequins are juxtaposed with streamlined silhouettes for spring. Valli even included outerwear with sheer capes and a more embellished take on a sixties housecoat. Models also wore large floral hair ornaments to match stunning gowns in hues of plum, fuchsia, ivory and black.

Couture Mood – With spring 2012 Haute Couture, Dior atelier Bill Gaytten delivers a ladylike collection featuring a tame color palette of ash, black, plum and ivory. Cinched waists, sheer tops and full, pleated skirts dominate the runway this season. Playing with prints, the Dior woman also wears hounds tooth, floral patterns and gradient lines for spring. The finale dresses were demure as well, showing a moody mix of black and grey with just a touch of sparkle.

Back to the Runway – Atelier Versace makes its first appearance on the runway since 2004 with the fashion house’s spring 2012 couture show. This season, the Atelier line has all the trappings of a classic Versace collection–body hugging silhouettes, metallic accents, bustier cuts and jewel tones which all scream sultry elegance. Spring also showcases a variety of lacework with sheer cutouts for a romantic touch. Beauty for the show included a high ponytail paired with a seductive smokey eye.

Dior Couture – Patrick Demarchelier captures a retrospective of Dior Haute Couture ranging from 1947 to present day in a photo book that was released late last year. Below we have a preview of some of the most striking images from the 240 page, “Dior Couture”, which features models Sasha Pivovarova, Magdalena Frackowiak, Jac Jagaciak, Maryna Linchuk and others. Demarchelier describes the designs best by saying, “When you’re a fashion photographer, you must inspire a dream, with Dior Haute Couture, the dream is already there.”

Atelier Versace Collection – After catching glimpses in editorials and red carpet events, we finally have a look at the complete Atelier Versace fall 2011 lookbook. Modeled by Kasia Struss, the collection features a delightful mix of eastern and baroque influences with water color hues and landscape prints. Combining crystals, leather, satin and sequins, the Atelier range is lavish yet elegant for the fall season.

Gaultier’s Rules – Whether it is for couture or ready to wear, Jean Paul Gaultier manages to put on a show with a polished flamboyancy like no one else. For the fall 2011 season, Gaultier created garments which juxtaposed sophistication and whimsy with lightweight feathers, rebellious leather and fur accents. Referencing previous collections as well as producing some new tricks, the French designer offered his own brand of couture with the grandiose showing.
