Fashion editor Edward Enninful takes a look at the trend of short minis for autumn in this month’s Vogue Italia. Starring an intriguing mix of girls including Patricia van der Vliet, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Valerija Kelava, Dorothea Barth Jorgensen, Gwen Loos, Hailey Clauson and Hannah Holman lensed by Craig McDean, The New Ease features the perfect balance between school girl chic and seventies redux.

I like these, but I just wish the images were larger.

Some of the most interesting and subversive photos I’ve seen in the fashion field for a long time.
The shot of the model with the vacant look, the orange skirt, the green nail polish, blue shoes seated in a ragged lay back chair is such a powerful image with its Balthus resonances and its hinted sexuality.
    Is it Hailey Clauson?
The other stunning shot is the girl on the bar stool with the blue frayed skirt (is it Hannah Holman?)
Both shots I want to avert my eyes but am transfixed nonetheless.

    Bravo Craig McDean!

Something very perverse about this, which is not a bad thing at all.

Very nice…something about this just seems so different to everything else out there at the moment but I can’t quite put my finger on it!

Agree with one the earlier comments, I’m digging the Balthus undertones here. As an art nerd, these are also reminding me (in their awkward adolescent-seeming sexual tension) of Rineke Dijkstra’s photographs…here are some good examples:

it’s not an EXACT relationship, there’s just a similarity of feel. In short: awesome.
