Sadly, as we usher in the month of April, it means that our Model of the Month series must come to an end. It has been a fun and exciting experience with Liu Wen as our March model, and the series will be taking a brief hiatus in order for us to focus on a new feature and regular postings. These last moments with Liu Wen are a fitting end to a wonderful Model of the Month.

As we get to know Liu Wen a little better for our Model of the Month series, it only seems fitting to take a look at her past. In an editorial from the September 2008 issue of Elle China, Liu is practically a fresh face in Neo-Boho. Shot by Li Qi, she shows all the promise to become the star she has become today.

As we approach the end of March, we find out there’s a lot more to Liu than meets the surface. In the second part of our interview with our March Model of the Month, Liu Wen, she reveals her beauty secrets and the challenges of learning another language.

What are your favorite pieces to wear?
I love all kinds of shoes, bags, hats and jeans.

What are three things that you can not travel without?
Facial masks (I need them to protect my skin at any moment), compressive bags (so I can put all my stuff more easily into my luggage), and eye-drops (the best protection for tired eyes).

What do you like most about modeling?
The profession can bring me to a lot of different places. And it gives me chance to try the latest creation of designers.

With modeling, you do a lot of traveling but is there a place you wish you could still visit?
Paris. Even being there for many times, I never really had time to walk around to appreciate this city. I really wish I could just sit at a café to have a nice cup of coffee quietly.

Once you became a model, what surprised you the most about the job?
It is quite different from what I imagined. Before I became a professional model, I thought being model is just about dressing up and walking for some meters on the runway. But when I really entered this world, I found out that this profession needs also a lot of effort. Of course every profession needs hard work to be good, but this one needs effort and a lot of physical energy.

You are currently mastering a new language–English. What’s the most challenging part about learning another language?
I’m not a big talker. But learning a foreign language, you have to keep talking, no matter if it is right or wrong, with an accent or not, you just have to talk all the time!

This month’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia looks to the architecture of Abu Dhabi’s Yas Hotel for the inspiration behind photographer Susanne Spiel’s editorial entitled Throwing Shapes. Working lengthening angles, Misha (Bareface) is a standout in a bold mix of elaborate prints styled by assistant fashion editor Sally Matthews.

From working the runway to covering the latest magazines, we have seen Liu Wen do just about it all for our Model of the Month series. Now it is time to learn a little bit more about the Chinese beauty in an interview where she reveals how she was discovered and her favorite hobbies among other insights.

Where were you raised?
Yongzhou in the Hunan province of China; a small, quiet and lovely town.

And where do you live now?
Beijing and New York, mainly between these two cities.

How and when were you discovered?
I was discovered in the Autumn of 2006, I met Joseph Carle (International creative director of Marie Claire) at Marie Claire China. It was [Joseph] who led me to my first fashion story, and also because of this, I began to be seen by the public.

How did your friends and family react when you started modeling?
I’m really thankful to my family and friends; they are so understanding and supportive, even at my most difficult moment when I just began this career. They are always there for me and encourage me to insist. Without them, I should have quit this profession a long time ago.

What are some of your hobbies?
Reading books and surfing the internet

If you were not a model, what career would you have now?
[I would be a] tourist guide. That was my specialty.
