When you get out of the water – whether it’s at the beach or at the pool – what do you wear? Probably a bathrobe or a beach towel. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with this – after all, it’s the water-absorbent function we’re after – fashion house 209Mare.com sees it as an opportunity to provide a superior product which still dries you off but also keeps you looking great.
Enter the 209 women’s Towel Tuxedo, a variation of the signature 209 men’s Beach Blazer after-swim jacket. It’s a bathrobe taken to the next level, one which looks good enough to wear out and about after you’re done drying off.
The 209 Towel Tuxedo comes in two forms: white with a colored lapel and the limited edition Brando Black. Named after Marlon Brando, the design is clearly inspired by the tuxedo the actor wore in the opening scenes of the classic film “The Godfather.”
Thanks to a refined cut better tailored to flatter the female form, the women’s Towel Tuxedo won’t make you look like an intimidating mafia boss. Instead, you’ll take on the appearance of a mysterious femme fatale (required Melania shades not included.)
Or, if you prefer to maintain a brighter and friendlier look, opt for the white version with colored lapel. The color options include Bali Blue, Rioja Red, Palermo Green and Barcelona Beige.
As the name suggests, the Towel Tuxedo is made entirely from towel. However, this is no ordinary towel, but plush and absorbent bamboo terry towel. In addition to being cashmere-soft, the material is naturally antibacterial and environmentally-friendly.
Further design features of the Towel Tuxedo include, velvet shawl collar lapel, and Tahiti mother-of-pearl monogrammed buttons that are always in color synchronisation to the color of the jacket. Contrast piping is used to mark the pockets as well as the collar. There are chrome under the arms to allow for breathability.
All materials have been carefully selected from the most exclusive textile mills in Italy, as have the ateliers which construct these impeccable garments. The Italian tailoring makes the appearance of the one wearing it very flattering. The result is a garment which functions like a luxury hotel bathrobe but fashioned after elegant formal wear.
This blending of function and fashion was a driving force behind the development of 209 Mare as a fashion house in the first place. Founders Gabriel and Federico Uribe saw a market gap in the world of luxury beachwear; it was hard to move from the water to a more refined setting without having to do an entire wardrobe change. The brothers were inspired to design garments which let you move from the beach to the beach club, and from the beach club to country club, in one seamless transition.
You’ve gone for a dip in the pool or a dive into the deep ocean blue. When you get out of the water, you want to get dry, and a bathrobe is the ideal choice. But a bathrobe is really just a bath towel sewn into the shape of a jacket; it’s not really a garment to be worn, just something to be used. The 209 Towel Tuxedo is an accomplished effort to give you something to wear out of the water which you can also wear out and about.
