Everyone is different and so is their skin. We can’t say for sure, but most men have dry skin and most women suffer from oily skin. It could be a matter of hormones or chemical makeup, but either way, it is important to take care of both types of skin.
Today we are discussing oily skin care. No matter your gender, and before you take out a large container of oil blotting paper, here are several ideas for the best skin care regimen for oily skin.
Wash Your Face
Always, always, wash your face in the morning and the evening. You may feel as if your face is clean in the morning from the night before when you wash it, but your bedding and air pollution are going to work against this theory.
Many people are tired from a long day and may decide to skip the nighttime face wash. This is a dangerous game you play with your skin. A build-up of dead skin cells, dirt and grime, and air pollution can accumulate in your pores and cause breakouts. These airborne contaminants will also add to the oil your skin produces over the course of a day.
So always be sure to wash away the effects of the day before laying your head on a pillow at night.
Face Treatments
There are many different types of oily skin treatments on the market. Most are designed to help eliminate the oils from your face, but some take it to the extreme and create dry skin patches. Find a skincare treatment that works well for your skin. This may take some experimentation with different types and brands. The best ingredient for oily skin is one that contains mild sulfur or benzoyl peroxide.
Try a Toner
You may also want to invest in a good quality toner for your face. After washing your face in the evening, put a slight amount of glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid.
Using a toner after washing your face will help take the last bit of dirt and grime out of your pores. It will also help to refresh your skin, and in some cases, allow better absorption of treatment or moisturizer.
Moisturize
After a good cleanser and a toner on your face, place a thin layer of a moisturizer on it. You may feel as if you should skip this part if you have oily skin, but there are specific moisturizers available for different skin types.
Choose a moisturizer that is light and made to help combat oily skin, but always choose one with sunscreen in it. Never go without sunscreen, even on a cloudy day. You must always protect your face from harmful UV rays, which cause damage to all types of skin.
Makeup
If you wear makeup, pick one that is designed to help with oily skin and cut down on shine. You may need to try a few different ones before getting the right one, one that will not dry out your skin.
Always take care of your skin, it’s the only one you will get. And one bright side of oily skin is that you will have fewer wrinkles than those who have dry skin!
