Colmar, the Italian outerwear brand steeped in history, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in artistic fashion. The Monza-based company has enlisted the talents of American visual artist Joshua Vides to craft a capsule collection that promises to be one to watch.
Joshua Vides is no stranger to the limelight. At 33, this Palo Alto native has already carved out a name for himself in the global fashion arena. His label, CLSC, is distributed in over 400 stores worldwide, and his unique black-and-white marker style has become his signature.
Vides first caught the public’s eye in 2017 with a custom sneaker design, a Nike Air Force 1, that blurred the lines between 2D art and 3D products. A year later, he expanded his creative universe by launching Reality to Idea, a studio space that serves as a playground for his monochromatic graphic ideas.
Colmar x Joshua Vides Announcement
The collaboration between Colmar and Vides was born out of a deep connection that became apparent in early 2022. Vides has a knack for reinterpreting iconic pieces, and this time, he’s set his sights on Colmar’s historic archive. The capsule collection will feature ten pieces, including jackets, a reversible padded vest, beanies, a scarf, a sweatshirt, pants, and a t-shirt.
Each piece will be a marriage of Vides’ artistic flair and Colmar’s Italian craftsmanship. The artist even reimagined Colmar’s 1923 dove logo and iconic 1249 down jacket, transforming them into graphic masterpieces.
This isn’t Colmar’s first foray into collaborations. The brand previously teamed up with designer Yosuke Aizawa, but the partnership with Vides adds another layer to its century-long history.
Both parties share a profound idea of striving for achievement, a sentiment that Vides eloquently expressed. “I usually start collaborations without a specific idea in mind,” says Vides. “I give myself the freedom to react to the stimuli of the moment and create the concept on the spot.” Stay tuned and discover the collection, which will be dropping on October 12th.
