Inspired by the idea of Victorian maximalism and modern minimalism, the fall-winter 2015 collection from Mary Katrantzou has a very intriguing beginnings. The idea of horror vacui—or the fear of empty space in artwork or in the Victorians’ case—interior design—gets translated into bold embellishments such as ruffles, Swarovski crystals and sequin embroidery. Yet this “more is more” attitude gets brought back down to reality with the use of minimalism—rectangular shaped shift dresses or long skirts in dark colors contrast the decorative elements. The color palette is eye-catching with rich hues of purple, green, blue and yellow certainly “fills the space”.
