At twenty years old, Estonian model Karmen Pedaru (MJ Models & Next) has done more than most models could dream of in a lifetime. After rocking the runway this past season and appearing in the pages of Numéro, Vogue Germany and Vogue Italia, Karmen is poised to continue her success with the upcoming Emporio Armani campaign. As a former athlete, Karmen compares her career to a sport; stating that, “Modeling is kind of like a sport. You need a lot of endurance and focus.” If that’s true, than Karmen is definitely in the race to win with her stunning looks and cool style.

How were you discovered?
I was discovered in Drama Theatre in Estonia when I was 15 years old.

What was the first major job of your career?
Fendi Fragrance

What is your most memorable shoot so far?
My most memorable shoot was in India. It was also my first shoot ever.

What is your most memorable runway show so far?
My most memorable show was my first big show and it was Stella McCartney. I was very nervous. I remember the shoes weren’t comfortable at all and were hurting me a lot. Anyways, while I was walking on the runway my shoe broke and I had to walk only with one shoe.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Chilled, hard working and grateful.

You are from Estonia and now live in New York. Did you experience a culture shock when you came to America or was it what you expected?
It wasn’t much of culture shock because I had some cultural education from watching tv, but when I got here I adjusted very very fast. To me, living in New York is like traveling without moving. You get exposed to almost every nationality and different lifestyles on a daily basis.

Looking at your street looks, it is apparent that you have a very unique sense of style. How would you describe your style?
My style is really simple. I don’t put a lot of effort into it. Just keep it unique, simple and comfortable

What is a surprising fact about you?

Clients think I’m really patient but actually I’m normally not.

You were recently photographed for the Emporio Armani campaign in New York. What was it like shooting in the streets? Do you prefer it to the studio?
Shooting on the streets is really weird because the people who are passing by are looking at you and taking pictures. I have to say I like shooting on the streets more than in the studio.

Do you prefer runway or print and why?
Runway. I really like to do shows. It’s really tiring to run around a month but I just love the feeling of when I’m on the catwalk.

We heard that you like sweets. What is your favorite dessert?
I love chocolate cakes. I just can’t resist it.

If you were not a model, what other job would you like to have?
An interior decorator.
