We’ve all seen the rise and fall of the “ugly Christmas sweater” trend. Hopefully, you’re no longer on the invite list of any Holiday events coming up that request you scour the thrift stores for sweaters from the eighties and nineties past. But, even if you are presented with such an invitation, maybe forgo the requested dress code and show up as your fashion-forward self. After all, you’re used to turning heads when you walk into a room. Other trends have come and gone when it comes to Christmas and New Year’s Parties, and there are others that have stood the test of time. Let’s review how to make sure you are – without a doubt – the best-dressed attendee at every holiday gathering this year!
Marvel in Metallics
One fashion statement that never goes out of style in the winter, especially for holiday parties, is a metallic statement. Whether you want to go more subdued with a flat metallic fabric dress or skirt with a blouse tucked in; or you want to really bling out with metallic head to toe, including your heels (or ankle booties) and metallic headband, people will be noticing you for the queen (or king) you are.
Simply Sequined
Sequins could be pulled off easily, though some get nervous, significantly if you grew up in the era of the “Bedazzler” toys. But, the reality is that sequins are classic and elegant. If you’re going to a holiday event this year that’s a black-tie, consider a form-fitting dress that is entirely made of sequins. If it’s a more casual type of gathering and you’re going straight from work or wearing your usual “day clothes,” you can incorporate sequins through a headband, earrings, and bracelets. They’re festive and fun, and let’s face it – you can only really wear them around the holidays, so live it up!
Age Appropriate Always
It can be tempting sometimes to want to try the latest trends. Just make sure you’re translating them into an age-appropriate variation of the trend. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t always stay on the sartorial side of things, but if you know what type of skincare regimen you need, you should also know what works for your age and body type. So, if trends are oversized and you’re very petite, recognize you may not be able to pull it off. Additionally, if the trend is a mini bodycon and you’re a fashion queen in your later years, you might want to go bodycon with a bit of length. Of course, always do you, but when you don’t stay with what works for your overall appearance, it can come off a little try-hard, and that’s never in style.
Don’t Skip The Details
They say “the devil’s in the details” for a reason. If you’re a fashion-minded person, this indeed isn’t lost on you – but don’t be in such a rush to get to your event that you forget your own details. I mean, you can’t judge others without holding yourself to the same standards! So, aside from the signature jewelry pieces you always wear, your Celine Dion perfume, and the perfect clutch for your holiday get-up, make sure you’re done to perfection. You also want to feel your best, so you exude the confidence people expect from you. After all, you’re going to be mingling all night long. Not to mention, if you’re single, you might meet some people at the party that you’d absolutely love to see again.
Stay Safe – Always
It goes without saying that parties will most likely not be dry. And, after the last year and a half that we’ve all had, we’re going to want to party like it’s 1999. But, make sure that you’re safe at all times. Drunk driving doesn’t look good on anyone and could have a lifetime of effects on not only you but ripple out to others as well. So, make sure that you’re practicing safety when it comes to partying with others as well as how you decide to get home that night.
If you can believe it, the holidays are right around the corner, so now is the time to start “adding to cart” all the things you need to look and feel your best – not to mention, be the best dressed at every event this season. Cheers!
