Approaching Chanel’s fall-winter 2016 haute couture collection, creative director, Karl Lagerfeld pays tribute to the seamstresses of the fashion house’s tailoring and dressmaking ateliers. Recreating workshops, complete with sewing machines, mirrors, fabrics, mannequins and more, the notable designer staged a show at the Grand Palais.
Silhouettes played a dominant role for the season with structured shapes that boasted angular shoulders and flat profiles. A Chanel signature, tweed jackets were reinterpreted as dresses. Paired with thigh-high leather boots, the statement piece was contrasted against evening gowns, built over soft cages and adorned with feathers. The star of the collection, Lagerfeld presented his ideal bride. The blushing beauty wore a bustier and trousers, rounded out by a feather-embroidered jacket and train.
