There’s a reason why some hairstyles are classics. Standing the test of time and being loved by women for decade after decade has a way of making styles legit. But that doesn’t mean they’re set in stone. The best part about classic hairstyles is that every woman can put her own unique spin on them. Are you feeling adventurous? If so, read on to learn about how to spice up three traditional hairstyles:
BE BOLD WITH BABY BANGS
Bangs are a timeless hairstyle we’ve been fans of for a long time. Usually, their length ranges from eyelash-grazing to a few millimeters above the eyebrows, but the newest fad is to go shorter. Much shorter. They’re called baby bangs, but there’s nothing childish about them. Allure magazine has compiled a list of different celebrities’ takes on them. Whether you choose to make your baby bangs wispy, choppy, or blunt, you can be sure you’ll be getting compliments on your daring style.
ADD COLOR TO BLACK HAIR
More people in the world have black hair than any other color, so it’s no surprise that women have been pushing the envelope with this style forever. Our favorite spin on it is adding other colors to the mix. Don’t already have black hair? The first step is obviously to make that happen. The hair professionals at Schwarzkopf remind us that there are a couple of things to keep in mind when dying your hair black, since the transition to black hair can already be considered a big leap.
Once you’re ready to add that colorful twist, the only rule to keep in mind is that there are no rules. In other words: go crazy! You can add ombré color-fading, tint your black hair with a different color, or add highlights. If you want to stay traditional, ]stick to natural colors like brown, blond, and red. On the other hand, if you really want to stand out, use a more unusual color (or several) like blue, pink, green, or silver. The world is your technicolor oyster.
MAKE A SHORT CUT EVEN SHORTER
Everyone loves a good pixie cut. Almost every woman has a point in her life where she just wishes she could chop most of her hair off. Some eventually follow through with it, which is where the pixie cut comes from. And some, who we’re especially in awe of, go one step further and add a side shave or undercut. Supermodel and actress Cara Delevingne recently got a buzzcut and has now allowed it to transition into a pixie. Imagine combining this style trendsetter’s latest two hairstyles into one statement-making hairdo!
Are you afraid there’s not much room to experiment when your hair is that short? Thankfully, you’re wrong. The only thing that has to stay constant with this style is that one section of your hair is cut very short. The positioning of this section, and the length and style of the hair around it, is completely up to you. From sweeping bangs to a curly-pixie take on the mohawk, going short (and shorter!) has never been so liberating.
