Corsets have gained popularity in recent years. The global corsets market is expected to experience a significant growth rate over the 2022–2028 period. Corsets make any figure flattering and enhance natural curves.

But wearing a corset comes with responsibility, as you shouldn’t tighten it too much. They can be chosen and tailored to fit your body without suffocating and ruining your internal organs. If you’re considering buying one, here are some tips for how to choose the right corset.

Why Should You Wear a Corset?

Corsets have a bad reputation for being uncomfortable, so you may be asking why you should wear one. But you can still wear them comfortably, regardless of your body type; the key is to choose the right style for you. For instance, if you’re shopping for a plus-size corset top, you can research online fashion brands that offer cute and trendy pieces.

Corsets aren’t harmful to your health if worn occasionally and not too tightly. They won’t damage your organs or spine and can even help people with spinal issues.

They look pretty, sexy, and sophisticated. So, if you want to wear a corset, don’t let other people’s opinions sway you.

Types of Corsets

Underbust

It is the most popular type of corset, designed to sit right below your breasts and make them look more toned. For comfort and curve accentuation, the length extends to your hip bone. Special underbust corsets can be made for women with longer torsos.

Waist Cincher

Waist cinchers are designed for flattening the tummy, not like traditional corsets. The strength of waist cinchers isn’t the same as conventional corsets, so they are not recommended for women with curvier or fuller figures. Instead of sitting below your breasts, waist cinchers begin at your bottom ribs and reach your hip bone.

Corset Silhouette

There are two main types of corset silhouettes: the hourglass silhouette and the gentle silhouette. These are corset-style silhouettes designed to maximize comfort and accentuate the waist. The emphasis is placed on the waist, creating an outline that gives the hips a rounder shape while defining the waistline.

Although the hourglass silhouette won’t reduce your waist size as dramatically, it does help to slim it down. This makes the hourglass silhouette a popular choice.

The gentle silhouette, also known as the u-shaped silhouette, slightly reduces the waist. This silhouette is best for slender bodies or those who don’t need any reduction in their midsection.

Most Common Types of Body Shapes

Round or Apple Figure

Round figures, also known as apple figures, have a less defined waist, thinner legs, and smaller shoulders. An underbust corset is the best option for this figure, and it is the perfect length as it runs right below your bust and ends at your hips.

The hourglass silhouette might be your best option if you have this body type. Tie it according to your comfort, but not too tight.

Rectangle Figure

With a rectangle-shaped body, your hips, waist, and shoulders are all almost equally wide. These figures naturally have a longer length, which creates a rectangular shape. Rectangle-shaped bodies will benefit from an underbust corset, and corsets with an underbust will give you a slight curve.

However, waist cinchers are also an excellent option for rectangular figures. Waist cinchers can help you slim down while enhancing your curves. You can opt for the hourglass silhouette if you have more muscle tone.

Hourglass Figure

These figures are the curviest. Hourglass women naturally have a defined waist and shoulders. These women carry more weight in their busts and hips and have smaller, more defined waists. Corsets can make these natural curves look amazing.

The underbust corset will highlight your beautiful curves. If you want to tie your corset tighter, ensure it is in the hourglass silhouette.

Triangle Figure

The pear shape, often referred to as the triangular figure, features a more substantial lower region and a narrower upper section. Essentially, this means your hips are more pronounced than your shoulders and bust.

A corset with a long underbust would fit you the best. The corset will sit on your hips and accentuate your curvier lower portion. Be careful with your corset; a gentle silhouette may be best for narrow ribcages.

Final Words on How to Choose the Right Corset

Women of all shapes and sizes can wear corsets. You can wear them to enhance your curves and decrease your waist. There are many options; no two bodies will look the same in the same corset. Whether your reason for wearing corsets is to slim down, to better your posture, or simply for aesthetics, you should now know how to choose the right corset for your body shape.
