Top model Joan Smalls lands the February 26, 2015, cover story from Net-a-Porter’s weekly online magazine called The Edit. In her fashion feature, she takes on rebellious style from the likes of Anthony Vaccarello, Versace and Givenchy. Photographed by Santiago Mauricio with styling by Tracy Taylor in the sunny, outdoors shoot.
In her interview, Joan talks about being named an #Instagirl on Vogue’s September issue last year. “We’re in a different time, where things have evolved. I don’t think it’s about things being instant; something instant just goes fast. I guess it comes from the word Instagram and social media – but it’s a double-edged sword… too much importance is placed on [social media] – there’s more to life than having a lot of likes. It’s not validation of who you are; having more followers doesn’t make you a better model. But that doesn’t always register to the industry. Does [a big following] mean that you’re good to do what’s required?”
As a maverick, I love any post that includes rebellious styling. The interview is great and it is so refreezing to see someone like Joan Smalls have everything in perspective. It takes confidence on oneself to have her attitude and that is a big part of why she is so attractive.
