Actress Lupita Nyong’o stars in the December 2014 cover story from Glamour, and is also named the magazine’s “Woman of the Year”. In the photo shoot captured by Tom Munro, Lupita has a radiant look while wearing designer looks from labels such as Dior, Christopher Kane and Miu Miu. Despite being heralded as the World’s Most Beautiful Person, Lupita did not always have such confidence in her looks. She says, “European standards of beauty are something that plague the entire world—the idea that darker skin is not beautiful, that light skin is the key to success and love. Africa is no exception. When I was in the second grade, one of my teachers said, ‘Where are you going to find a husband? How are you going to find someone darker than you?’ I was mortified.”
There’s air about Lupita that feels warm and translates through her photos. That’s an amazing trait! It seems unbelievable what an elementary teacher has said to her, but it really does happen! I know of a high school instructor who irrelevantly made similar comments, and simply, it was: WTF.
