Mary Katrantzou cites optical phenomena and the 18th century study of plant morphology as inspiration for her resort 2016 collection. With such an academic influence, the designer manages to strike a balance between the theoretical and wearable aspects of fashion. A rainbow palette embraces just about every color from pink to red to violet, blue and green. The plant studies are taken literally with prints of enlarged florals and shrubbery layered over bright colors with psychedelic waves. The silhouette is loose and feminine with plenty of pleating and flared hemlines. The bold color and pattern combinations are contrasted with more simple looks including a navy suit jacket, monochromatic separates and stark white to break up the vibrant hues.
