Rapper Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” video has certainly garnered a lot of buzz and even resulted in a Vogue.com feature where she teaches models how to do the dance. For the November issue of GQ Magazine, the men’s publication interviews Nicki about the meaning behind the music video. Many people tried to read into it and see it as an ode to men’s obsession with the female form as the interview describes. But for Nicki, she says that part of it is about taking the power back sexually as a woman.
She references the scene with banana which she ends up chopping up furiously. “At first I’m being sexual with the banana, and then it’s like, ‘Ha-ha, no.’ …that was important for us to show in the kitchen scene, because it’s always about the female taking back the power, and if you want to be flirty and funny that’s fine, but always keeping the power and the control in everything.”
