The Magic Gap-Famed fashion photographer Guy Aroch filmed a video documenting the ever so elusive inner thigh gap that society has become increasingly obsessed with. The video, which was made as part of NOWNESS’ weekly series #DefineBeauty, shines a light on varying views on beauty and body image. Aroch took to the streets of SoHo and Central Park to ask passers-by what they thought the definition of The Magic Gap was. NOWNESS says Aroch sought to “diffuse” the situation by shedding a softer light on the hotly debated topic. “It was more of a comment on the mysterious fixation women have, because as a male, I didn’t even know it was a thing.” says Aroch.
Although Aroch attempted to defuse the tension and controversy surrounding The Magic Gap, he may have unintentionally ruffled some more feathers as the video garnered mixed reviews from viewers. Many people expressed their anger at Aroch’s use of “super-thin” models such as Chanel Iman, Alyssa Miller, Elsa Hosk and Sports Illustrated’s Gigi Hadid in the video which they felt further objectified women, while some were left feeling bored and others took a more neutral stance on the body obsession.
