Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko’s spring 2015 haute couture collection offered up a fantasy of colors and shapes. With inspiration drawn from Russia’s neighboring countries, Georgia and Armenia, spring looked to architecture, Georgian-Armenian director Sergei Parajanov and 19th century poetry for reference points. Curved silhouettes cinched at the waist and flared at the hemline are hand embroidered with criss-cross stitching, crystals and swirls. Still, more minimal moments also stand out like a burgundy-colored jumpsuit or black dress adorned with sheer, three-quarter sleeves in white.
I am stunned by this Russian woman’s designs. Love the colors, the shapes, and patterns, all so obviously influenced by her Russian heritage. Just great fun to look at, and probably great fun to wear.
